Formerly known as American English on Skype
Hello. My name is Jennifer DeLapp. I would like to help you reach your goals in speaking & writing English. I have worked with international students for over 20 years. I have lived in two foreign countries and three different states. This experience has helped me appreciate the challenges of learning English.
I can help with any of the following:
Accent Reduction. Every language group has specific sounds that are difficult to pronounce in English. I can help you with this. If you want to sound more like a native, I can show you how to speak correctly.
Writing. Once you learn how to write correctly, you will be able to speak correctly. By doing your assigned homework, I will be able to identify your areas of weakness and help you increase your level of fluency.
Focused speaking practice. This includes helping you with errors in grammar related to specific conversational topics.
Business English. This includes practicing lunch or dinner conversation, as well as helping you to prepare for specific events, presentations and meetings. You provide the content; I’ll help with the language.
Interviewing skills. If your goal is to come to N. America to get a job, I know the questions most employers will ask you. I will work with you and help you answer the difficult questions like "Tell me about yourself."
Phrasal verbs and idioms are usually a part of every lesson
Tutoring for any age, including children as young as 12. For children under 15, I suggest a 40 minute lesson only.
Teaching survival English for tourists on their way to the U.S.
Travel plans. I have traveled all over the western half of the U.S. I am very happy to advise you on what to see and do when you come here.
TOEFL test preparation.
I am a certified ESL Exam Prep Coach. I received this training through English Success Academy.

Finding an English teacher can be difficult. I have been working with foreign students since I was in high school. I was a foreign exchange student myself many years ago. I know how difficult it is to learn a foreign language. I've studied more than 5 different languages, but I only know English well.
I am happy to meet with you for a few minutes on Zoom before you commit to a paid lesson. During this time I'll tell you about my teaching methods and briefly test your level of English.
I grew up in a small town in Northern California. I have also lived in Chico, Long Beach, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Berkeley and Sacramento, California. I also spent a year in Oregon. I have lived in Colorado since 2008. It’s beautiful here. Much of my life I have traveled. I first traveled with my family to Europe as an eight-year-old child. The next time I traveled to Europe I went with some friends and a backpack. We slept in small hotels, youth hostels, campgrounds and on the train. The next year I lived in Lapland, Finland for an exchange year. Later I returned to Europe and spent another year living in both Finland and Germany. I have also seen much of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Western Turkey.
I received my University of Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults in 2001, but I've been tutoring since the 1980's. In addition, I have a B.A. in Humanities & World Religions from California State University Sacramento. I am also an editor. Are you ready to speak American English?
